A collaboration between MJ Kaufman and Nicole A. Watson
Using the audio and video footage from the shooting of John Crawford in an Ohio Walmart as a starting point, We Sat in the Death House is a collaborative experiment that examines the spectatorship of violence in the modern age.
What does it mean when we can witness acts of violence, preserve them, and share them? Is witnessing an act of collaboration, consent, or resistance?
This project was started in the New Georges Jam and received support from The Drama League where Nicole and MJ were 2015 artists-in-residence.
The video is an excerpt from the New Georges Jamboree.
A later iteration of this project was featured in 2016 at the New Georges Space Jam.
